This is the 1860 Richmond City Business Directory - sort of the yellow pages for its time. Accompanying the business directory was a citizen directory - sort of the white pages of its time. Alas, the citizens directory is VERY large, and will take more time to transcribe than the business directory.

This directory lists the businesses in Richmond in 1860. At the outbreak of war, many things changed in Richmond, and no doubt some of these businesses folded as time went on, others became prisons or hospitals, etc, etc. So, what this is useful for is determining what was at a particular location in 1860.

The directory is VERY large in HTML format, (approx 51 pages if you dump it to MS Word) so I have also included it in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format.
