From the Richmond Dispatch, 12/27/1861, p. 2, c. 3
The Negroes
behaved with great propriety on Christmas day, and we willingly give them
credit for it. They had but two or three representatives at the Mayor’s Court
yesterday, and these were up for offences not peculiar to the holiday season.
Wm. Scott, free, for trespassing on the premises of B. B. Pettis; and Patrick,
slave of T. & S. Hardgrove, for furnishing whiskey to the Yankee prisoners, were
sent down to be punished in the usual way.
