Complained Of. - A row of houses in rear of the
Exchange Hotel, occupied by parties of a dubious and uncertain character, is the
prolific source of many a disgraceful row which the police have been called on
to quell. The testimony given in a case before the Mayor Tuesday, proved the
houses alluded to contain many nests of vile and unclean birds. The Mayor
intimated his intention of having the houses cleaned of their present occupants,
which would be a very good thing, so far as the moral atmosphere of that part of
the city is concerned. Parties who may have occasion to walk by the locality
will see that the occupants themselves have a well-grounded apprehension of the
dangers which beset them, having boarded up all of their accessible doors and
windows, thus preparing for miniature bombardments.
