From the Richmond Dispatch, 10/30/1862, p. 1, c. 3

Discharge of Detectives. We learn that Gen. Winder on yesterday issued an order dismissing all of the detective officers employed in the office of Major Griswold, Provost Marshal of Richmond, corner of 9th and Broad streets, on the ground of "malfeasance in office, corruption, bribery, and incompetency," the order to take effect on the last day of this month. All save one immediately resigned. Two were afterwards arrested by Lieut. Booker, Assistant Provost Marshal, of the Western District, carried before Gen. Winder, and paroled for trial before Court-Martial this morning. The above information is derived from a gentleman officially cognizant of the facts stated.
