From the Richmond Dispatch, 10/31/1862, p. 1, c. 5The Condemned Deserter. – John F. Parke, member of the Richmond Zouaves. 44th Virginia regiment, condemned by Court Martial to be shot, will be executed, pursuant to sentence, about 11 o'clock next Monday, at Camp Lee. The sentence of the Court was communicated to the prisoner yesterday, at Castle Thunder, by Capt. Alexander, in presence of all the officers and inmates of the place. The reading of the document had a visible effect on the condemned; his face became deadly pale, and he trembled like an aspen. Last night a large hole was detected in the cell occupied by Parke and two comrades, but as it lead into an adjoining cell, no danger of an escape was apprehended.
