From the Richmond Dispatch, 11/28/1862, p. 1, c. 4Prison Items. – John H. Mathews, Edward Harris, and Francis Fields, soldiers, put in the cage for drunkenness, were sent to Castle Thunder yesterday; also, John P. Usher, of company H, 9th Louisiana, a patient in Hospital No. 13, charged with drunkenness and disorderly conduct. Thirteen men were also sent to this prison by the Provost Marshal of Petersburg, to be returned to their respective regiments. The introduction of corporeal punishment as a part of the regiment of Castle Thunder for misconduct, such as robbery, assaults, &c., has had a most salutary effect on the manners of the inmates, some of whom are very hard cases.
