From the Richmond Dispatch, 11/4/1862, p. 2, c. 2

MEDICAL COLLEGE HOSPITAL – The present extravagant and advancing prices of provisions, medicines, fuel, and every other article of hospital consumption, imperatively require a considerable increase in the charges in this establishment. The Faculty have, therefore, decided that, for patients admitted on and after the 8th inst., the rates shall be as follows:

White patients in public wards…..$10.00 per week
For less than a week………………1.50 per day
Colored patients…………………..8.00 per week.
For less than a week………………1.25 per day.

For private rooms the rate will continue for the present to be $15 per week or $2.50 per day.

These charges will include Board, Medical and Surgical attendance, Medicines, Nursing, and Washing. A small additional fee will be charged, as heretofore, for surgical operations.

The increased rates will not apply to patients at present in the hospital, or to those who may be admitted before the date above specified.

L. S. JOYNES, M. D.
President.
