From the Richmond Dispatch, 12/29/1862, p. 1, c. 4The Ringleader of a plot to assassinate the sentinels at Castle Thunder on Christmas night, and secure a general delivery of all of the prisoners in that extensive establishment, was discovered on yesterday, punished with stripes placed in irons, and put on bread and water diet. His name is David Welsh, a Yankee, a murderer by profession.
