From the Richmond Dispatch, 12/31/1862, p. 1, c. 4Charged With Murder. – Two men, named Calvin Williams and Elber A. Helms, of North Carolina, were brought to Richmond yesterday, and lodged in the military prison, for trial on the charge of resisting the militia officers when they attempted to arrest them as conscripts, and afterwards killing two of the enrolling officers in Burke co., N. C.—These desperadoes were afterwards arrested by Major A. W. McAvery and handed over to the military authorities.
