From the Richmond Dispatch, 1/3/1862, p. 2, c. 4Narrow Escape. - Yesterday morning, about one o’clock, the wholesale dry goods establishment of Ginter, Alvey & Arents, corner of Main and 13th streets, took fire in the basement, but it was fortunately discovered in time to prevent serious damage. The supposition is that the fire was caused by some hot ashes which had been deposited in the lower part of the building.
