From the Richmond Dispatch, 5/21/1862, p. 2, c. 4Disgraceful. – Many persons, devoid of decency and modesty, are in the habit of performing their daily ablutions in the stream running through Hollywood Cemetery and that part of the Canal in close juxtaposition to this “city of the dead,” to the annoyance and disgust of persons of a more refined nature than the beastly creatures in the shape of men who thus make an exposure of their carcasses. Can’t the directors put a stop to this kind sport, as it is not over agreeable to visitors to the cemetery? Where’s the keeper?
