From the Richmond Dispatch, 6/30/1862, p. 3, c. 4

A soldier, whose name we did not learn, while standing on the steps of the Exchange Hotel, on Saturday about 2 o’clock, accidentally let the butt of his musket fall against the stone steps, and the concussion exploding the charge, the large ball with which the gun was loaded passed through his thigh and came out above his hip. It was thought he could not survive.
