From the Richmond Dispatch, 6/4/1862, p. 3, c. 3

NOTICE – The gates of the Capitol Square having been opened during the night, and so fixed as to prevent their being shut, to allow cows to feed on the square, notice is hereby given that any such animal found therein hereafter will be summarily disposed of, by being shot.
