From the Richmond Dispatch, 8/22/1862
Execution. - No reprieve having been received up to
a late hour last evening for John Richardson alias Louis Napoleon, convicted
before the C. S. District Court and sentenced to be hung for counterfeiting
Confederate Treasury notes, we are justified in announcing that he will be hung
at the place where Read and Clements were hung, near Poor-House gulley, to-day,
between the hours of eleven and one o'clock, by Colonel John F. Wily, C. S.
Marshal for the Eastern District of Virginia, and his assistants. Having been
sentenced by a Court, the military properly have nothing to do with the
execution of the sentence.
