From the Richmond Dispatch, 8/8/1862
Mortuary. – The extremely hot weather with which
we have been favored for several days past has produced its accustomed result in
increasing the bills of mortality. On Wednesday the bodies of fifty-one soldiers
were buried at Oakwood Cemetery. Independent of the hospitals, considerable
sickness exists amongst the citizens, especially among the younger portion.
