From the Richmond Dispatch, 9/20/1862
Escaped. – The soldier named W. H. Wright,
arrested a few days since by Detective Boyd for passing a $100 counterfeit note
on the Bank of Mobile, and for having in his possession two other bogus notes
purporting to be issued by the Manufacturers’ and Mechanics’ Bank of
Columbus, Georgia, escaped from Castle Booker, corner of 6th and Cary
streets, on Thursday night. Had he not succeeded in giving the guard the slip,
it was the intention of the Provost Marshal to have turned him over to the Mayor
for examination.
