From the Richmond Enquirer, 3/6/1862, p. 3, c. 5
FIRE. – A fire broke out about half past 8 o’clock last
night, in the stable of Dr. Gibson, attached to his dwelling, in William C.
Allen’s row of buildings, Franklin street, between 6th and 7th
streets., which destroyed its roof, and would probably have communicated to the
dwelling itself, but for the timely arrival and vigorous efforts of the fire
department. The horses of Dr. Gibson were all saved, but a large quantity of
grain and fodder stored away in the stable were destroyed. The fire is
attributed to incendiarism.
