SHOT BY A SENTINEL. – On yesterday morning a servant of Dr.
Higginbotham, named William Brown, a free negro, while engaged in sweeping out
the Confederate prison hospital, was shot by one of the sentinels, as he
appeared at one of the windows. The ball entered the back, between the
shoulders, and lodged in his breast. Almost instant death was the result. The
soldier was immediately put under arrest to be tried by a court-martial on a
charge of murder.
