From the Richmond Enquirer, 6/7/1862, p. 1, c. 7

ACCIDENT. – As the train from Petersburg entered the depot, yesterday afternoon, a soldier attempted to cross the track ahead of it, when his foot slipped into the space between the rail and the platform, and partially threw him down. Before he could recover, the train came up, and the cow-catcher of the locomotive struck his leg, and divested it of a considerable portion of the flesh, without, however, injuring the bone. He was taken to the Bird Island Hospital.
