A NEW PROVOST MARSHAL. - We understand that Capt. A. C. Godwin, finding the combined duties of Provost Marshal and Commandant of the prisons too onerous to be efficiently performed by one person, will resign the former position, and will be succeeded by Capt. Porter, with the rank of Colonel. Capt. Godwin will act, however, as deputy Provost Marshal, Col. Jones will be retained in his position as chief of the passport office.
