From the Richmond Examiner, 5/13/1864
THE SEABROOKS RECEIVING HOSPITAL was besieged yesterday by the friends and
relatives of the wounded received, and the friends of those engaged in the
battles, but not yet heard from. – Nearly one hundred were admitted yesterday,
wounded in the fighting of Wednesday evening and yesterday morning, on the
Brooke and Mechanicsville pikes. Their wounds were mostly severe, and two deaths
resulted during the day.
Howard Grove hospital, being nigher the scene of the fighting, the majority
of the wounded were cared for there. Our citizens cannot be too assiduous in
supplying the hospitals with nourishing food for the wounded, bandages, &c.
