                                Dr Sir

I regret to report the Canal Boat “Bell of Pemberton” of which I was in charge, was captured on Friday the 10th inst at Lock 16 Fluvanna Co, Va, by the “Sheridan Raiders.” The Boat with its contents were burned. I herewith transmit a statement of the property destroyed, as some of my papers were lost in the excitement, the statement may be somewhat imperfect.

Very Respectfully,
