From the National Archives, RG 109, Ch. 6, Vol. 707-709; “Letters Received and Sent, Chimborazo Hospital. 1861-64.” 3 Vols: Vol. 709, pt. 2, p. 326

[no date]

Dr. J. B. McCaw, Surgeon in Chief
Chimborazo Hospital
                                        Sir:

In compliance with an order to return you the names of three of the least efficient contract Physicians or acting Asst Surgeons in my Division, I would state that I have but two, Drs. Nevitt & Sims, who are both very efficient in the present positions. I have one detailed Asst Surgeon Dr. Tabb and one volunteer Act. Asst Surgeon Dr. Dickert rated(?) as a nurse who is now sick with continuous fever. These latter two assistants have been entered on the morning reports as act. Asst. Surgeons from which I presume originated the order to return the names of three Act. Asst. Surgeons.

Very Respectfully
    Your Obdt Servt
        S. E. Habersham Surgn
