Captain Sally Louisa Tompkins.

RICHMOND, Va., July 25. Captain Sally Louisa Tompkins, 83 years old, the only woman ever commissioned as an officer in the Confederate Army, died today at the Home for Confederate Women. She was commissioned a Captain of Cavalry in order that she might continue to conduct a private hospital after such institutions had been ordered closed.
