Dr. Mary E. Walker. – Some excitement among the
juveniles and negroes was produced Saturday morning, by the appearance on the
streets of Mary E. Walker, the Yankee surgeon, in her outré costume, of
men’s pants, boots and short cloak and broad brimmed beaver hat. She was walking
between two detectives, who conducted her to Gen. Winder’s office, and thence
back to the Castle. The cause of her visit to the General we did not learn.
