From the Richmond Whig, 9/4/1861
STONE BATTLES. - The “Shockoe Hill Cats” and “Butcher
Cats” have changed their trysting grounds from the hill at the head of
Governor’s street to Navy Hill, between 4th and 7th
streets, where every Sunday afternoon the whole neighborhood is grievously
annoyed by the hideous yells and general misconduct of the boys engaged in these
outrages. The police have not, of late, extended their visits to the vicinity of
the suburbs referred to, but we trust they will perceive the propriety of doing
so in future. We wee informed that an infant was struck by a missile thrown by
one of the belligerents, last Sunday, and was nearly killed.
