RAILROAD CONNECTIONS. - A
scheme is now before the Legislature for connecting the Richmond and Petersburg
railroad with the Central railroad, by means of a tunnel under 8th street, from
Byrd street to the valley, north of French Garden Hill. The estimated cost is
$200,000. Another plan is to construct a tunnel passing under the Capitol
Square, diagonally, and opening in the hillside beyond the Presidentís House.
