From the Richmond Whig, 1/6/1863, p. 1, c. 6ARRIVAL OF PRISONERS. – Some twenty Yankee prisoners, captured by our forces in Eastern North Carolina, were brought up from Petersburg yesterday and lodged in the military prison. One of them claims to be a deserter, who desires to attach himself to the rising fortunes of the Southern Confederacy. The Central train last evening brought down eighteen prisoners taken by Hampton’s cavalry near Warrenton and at other places. Sixteen of them are Yankee soldiers, and two are citizens.
