From the Richmond Whig, 4/20/1865
THE FUNERAL OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN, late President of the
United States, which took place in Washington yesterday, was recognized in
Richmond by the suspension of al Government labor not absolutely necessary, he
placing of all the flags at half mast throughout the city and upon the shipping.
At noon twenty-one minute guns were fired by the war vessels in the harbor; and
the roar of the guns as they reverberated through the city awoke in the minds of
all the realization of the solemn event that was transpiring at the Capital of
the Nation.
