Confederate Inflation Chart

Using the best contemporary sources, this chart portrays the purchasing value in gold of Confederate Treasury Notes at various periods during the American Civil War. It is a composite tabulation reflecting generally the situation in Richmond, Virginia, the capital and financial center of the Confederacy. It depicts the basic exchange value; and it should be understood that in general purchases,  the rate of exchange was also effected by the availability or rarity of a particular item, It is also well to remember that in all areas of great and rapid inflation, relative exchange charts are nebulus.
