From the Richmond Dispatch, 10/21/1861, p. 2, c. 3
Accident.
– On Saturday last, a lad named Charles Eacho received a severe injury by
jumping from a street railway car, one of the wheels of which passed over his
leg. It is a dangerous experiment to jump from a car while it is in motion, and
such a proceeding is entirely unnecessary, for it is the duty of the conductor
to stop the carriage whenever a passenger wishes to alight. The accident
occurred on Main street, between 17th
and 18th.
