From the Richmond Dispatch, 8/22/1861, p. 2
STRAYED OR STOLEN - From the subscribers, on the night of
the 19th inst., a light bay MARE, heavily built, about 16 hands high,
with black mane and tail, and a dark bay MARE, lightly built, about 16 hands
high, with dark mane and tail. The last mentioned horse has on the top of her
head, between her ears, a cutaneous excrescence about one inch long, caused by
an abrasure of the skin. The said Horses were purchased in Richmond from
Blankenship’s stable, about a month ago; and the last mentioned one was raised
in Louisa co., whither it is likely that she is making her way. A suitable
reward will be paid for the delivery of the said Horses, or either of them, to
the subscribers, at the camp of the 2nd Regiment Florida Volunteers, (Reservoir
station, Richmond) or for such information as will lead to their speedy
recovery.
