From the Richmond Dispatch, 5/3/1861
Hospital of St.
Francis de Sales.
This Hospital is prepared to receive and give the best
medical aid and general attention to the sick. It is a fortunate circumstance
for the sick and disabled soldier stationed here that such an institution is at
hand. There he will receive such nursing as no hospital not under the care of
those gentle and devoted women can bestow. Let us than God for the “Sisters of
Charity,” whose homes and hospitals, in the midst of wars and tumults, are an
ark upon the waters, where the merciful and compassionate spirit of the Gospel,
flying from the furious waves of human passions, finds a refuge till the storm
be overpast.
