From the Richmond Dispatch, 9/29/1862
Sent Away. – One hundred and one men heretofore
confined in Castle Thunder on the charge of desertion, were sent to Winchester,
Va., yesterday, in charge of Lieut. McCauley and a guard of 20 men. For the
privilege of running away from their companies, getting caught, and being locked
up in prison, each will have to sacrifice three months pay.
