REMAINS OF GENERAL STARKE. – The remains of General William
E. Starke, who fell at the battle of Sharpsburg, Maryland, on Wednesday last,
reached the city last evening. They were met at the Central depot by a
detachment of the State Guard accompanied by a band of music, and escorted to
the Capitol, where they were laid in state. General Starke was a native of
Virginia, but latterly resided in New Orleans. He owned a handsome estate in
Mississippi. – His career has been as spotless in civil, as it has been modest
and meritorious in military life.
