From the Richmond Enquirer, 3/7/1862
RELEASED. - Mr. Charles Palmer, arrested on Wednesday upon
suspicion of disloyalty, was yesterday released from custody by order of Gen.
Winder. The assertation made in this column yesterday, upon the authority of a
prominent citizen of Richmond, that Mr. Palmer has loudly expressed his loyalty
to the Lincoln Government, is contradicted by his son, Capt. Wm. P. Palmer, as
utterly and entirely without foundation, and the discharge of Mr. Palmer seems
to sustain the contradiction.
