From the Richmond Examiner, 5/18/1863

THE DAMAGE TO THE TREDEGAR WORKS. – We learn that the proprietors of the Tredegar Iron Works have not allowed a single hand at their works to be thrown out of employment by the conflagration which destroyed several of the departments. The day after the fire the workmen received liberal offers from the proprietors of other works, but with the assurance of General Anderson that continuous employment would be furnished them, they declined to abandon their present employer.

As we anticipated, a large proportion of the machinery and tools in the shops burned, has been rescued, very slightly the worse for the heat to which they were exposed. The rebuilding has already been commenced, and in a few weeks the whole complement of works will be in operation again.
